As bold as a lion...

...but the righteous are as bold as a lion. -Proverbs 28:1

My 7 year old daughter happens to have an extreme fascination for cats of all sorts. The documentary this clip is taken from is called "African Cats" and she's watched it at least half a dozen times. It's definitely interesting and usually I'm busy about the house when it's on but every time it gets to this part, I just can't help but stop what I'm doing and watch. Here you have this pride of lions with multiple lionesses and cubs feeding near the riverbank and these crocodiles approach, sneakily and ready to attack...until Daddy Lion shows up and comes face to face with these crocodile, bold and brave until the crocodiles retreat. I watch this clip and it speaks to me on a number of levels. I can use this metaphorically for several things, but the main one I want to focus on is this: I see that lion in my husband. He doesn't go looking for trouble, but when trouble comes our way you can guarantee he will be at the forefront ready to defend and push back any evil attempting to attack or hurt our family. He's bold and brave, never backing down from truth and never letting the enemy overtake. Some would say he was just born this way, or it's just in his nature and that would be partially correct, but I know where his strength and boldness come from. His confidence to stand firm against the enemy comes from Christ. You see, my husband has placed his confidence and his trust in God, knowing that the battle is his to win since Christ has defeated the enemy, sin, and death. Through Jesus' righteousness we are made right before Almighty God and given the Holy Spirit within to not only stand against, but also defeat the enemy. So he does just that, fearless and strong and I can't even express how thankful I am for a man like him. God's given me a wonderful husband and he's a great example to our children, of what a real man is. Not boasting in his own strength but knowing his strength comes from God, and since he knows that, no enemy stands a chance. I love you, husband. Thanks for being our fearless lion of a leader.
